Tim Smith

You may not see Tim around the store too often as he is employed full time elsewhere.  He does, however, take care of a lot of the behind the scenes stuff, as well as being our illustrious webmaster and all-round technology expert. 

Sometimes known as the “Fairy Wrassler” or “King of the Fairies”, due to his interest in fairy and flasher wrasse, Tim is currently editing a book on fairies and flashers for a friend and is very active on various aquarium forums, giving people advice on fairies and flashers.

 

Kate Toogood
Joint Owner/Manager

Kate is mostly a saltwater girl, but can help you with the freshwater side of things as well.  Kate does everything from doing the ordering and paying the bills, to updating the website, vacuuming the floor and cleaning tanks.  She also has a degree in environmental policy & planning and is always trying to find ways to apply conservation to what we do at Wonderfish.  

Kate loves tiny fish and has a particular interest in syngnathids.  She also has a keen interest in breeding fish.  She dreams of the time when Tim agrees to buy her a big house with enough land to keep all of the animals she wants!

Ash Roberts-Thomson

We have been known to call him The Doctor, but only because he is one. And we aren't.

He has a BSc (Hons) and a PhD - his thesis was on parasitology but his expertise extends to all facets of marine biology. He has published many times, has appeared in the media repeatedly, is a certified open water diver, and general all-around good bloke.

His previous role was as the operations manager/curator of  Daydream Island’s living reef - the second largest outdoor aquarium in the world. Day to day duties included maintenance of large predator, coral, estuarine, and fish exhibits. This included overseeing shark breeding and coral propagation programs, managing the team of aquarists, maintenance of infrastructure, occupational diving, health management of livestock, emergency management policy development and implementation, and environmental management plan (EMP) development and implementation.

Buckley & Jani

Buckley and Jani are in charge of Customer Relations and Security.  They also have a tendency to try and round up the fish sometimes.  Don't be fooled by their cute expressions and habit of lying at your feet asking for their tummies to be scratched, they are fully trained attack dogs who will knock shoplifters over and kiss them until the police arrive.  They are only babies, so we apologise for any naughtiness, but they are learning to be good shop dogs.  For those who are wondering, Buckley is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Jani is a Finnish Lapphund.
